Project Overview
The ability of the ARCBS to accept, receive and process blood donations in Australia is critical for the well being of many Australians who depend on it.
Forecasting a shortage in the pool of nurses available for the general workforce and therefore Blood Donor Centres around the country, the ARCBS took a proactive and consultative approach with staff to find the best possible outcomes to an increasingly inevitable problem.
A newsletter had been circulated about this issue however it was not achieving the cut-through and involvement the internal comms department had hoped.
The Solution
A series of 7 corporate DVD episodes were rolled out over several months to engage staff nationwide to contribute ideas and discuss nursing recruitment alternatives. This included the introduction of a newly formed controversial role conducted by non-nurses, to perform many nursing duties.
The Outcome
The internal communication videos demonstrated the initiatives put forward, created discussion, raised feedback and ultimately assisted in the alignment of staff in finding the most appropriate solutions that related to the future recruitment needs and vision of the business. The non-nursing role was successfully trialled and embraced by staff and management as one part of a package of solutions that will help the ARCBS meet the demand in this country for blood and blood products for many years to come.
